Five alumni came back to Aquinas with their middle school–age grandchildren on Friday, November 30 to participate in the first Legacy Day.
The group toured the school, sat in on classes, and participated in a question and answer session with current AQ students. The participants shared past and current information on subjects such as dress code, grade point averages and the length of the school bus ride.
"I visited Aquinas last month with my classmates," said Steven Aprilano, an eighth-grader at Mother of Sorrows. "It was fun to come today and learn what it was like here a long time ago." Steven's grandfather, Frank Aprilano, graduated from Aquinas in 1952. He remembers his days at Aquinas with great fondness, and enjoyed sharing them with Steven.
Haley Schwab, daughter of Jim '83, attended the event with her grandfather, Bob '63.
"She took some good natured ribbing about being the first Schwab female to walk the halls here," said Bob, who is a Development Officer at the school. "My great-grandfather, Carl Loewenguth, graduated in 1939 and my dad and six uncles all went to school here too," Haley added.
Following lunch in the new Student Union, the group reconvened in the Basilian Room to review what they learned about the school with a friendly game of AQ Trivia. All of the participants agreed that they learned more about AQ and about each other. "That's what Legacy Day is all about," said Chris Grout '88, alumni relations officer. "We plan to offer the program throughout the year."
