Preparing Thanksgiving dinner boxes for families in need is an annual tradition at Aquinas. This year, 45 families each received turkeys and all fixin's necessary for a complete Thanksgiving dinner. Each family also took home a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart. "When the Peer Ministers told the families this, some broke down, gave us hugs and such heartfelt gratitude," said Mary Bills, Aquinas Campus Minister.
Students, faculty and staff generously contributed food items, turkeys and cash. Mrs. Bills added, "There are so many people who went beyond what I certainly expected – but then – there's the miracle!"
A recent Jar Wars competition between classes raised $2,967.14. Student Council members spent several days counting out the coins, which were collected in 10 gallon jugs. The funds will be donated to the following charitable projects:
$300 - Aquinas Thanksgiving Baskets
$500 - The Pirate Toy Fund
$500 - The Open Door Mission
$500 - Food Link
$500 - Salvation Army (Red Kettle Campaign)
