Parents Accept Meritorious Service Award

New York State Troopers gathered with Aquinas alumni to honor former trooper Andrew J. Sperr '91, the 2009 recipient of the Aquinas Meritorious Service Award. The award was presented posthumously at a September 18 ceremony during Alumni & Reunion weekend. Sperr's parents, Andy and Jean, accepted the award on behalf of their son, who was killed while on duty March 1, 2006 in the town of Big Flats, New York.

The Meritorious Service award is presented annually to salute those who display allegiance and dedication to the core values and mission of Aquinas, representing the "Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge supported through gospel values" that are foremost in the legacy and tradition of The Aquinas Institute.

The Troopers also presented the Sperr's and Aquinas with a check for $2,000 for the AJ Sperr Endowed Scholarship Fund.
